Brief Summary of Work for this Position
Learn to Swim Program Assistant Director will help manage activities and provide instruction for participants, supervise UNCW student staff and participants in the pool. The Assistant Director must be a trained swim instructor and lifeguard. Experience is preferred and must have flexible hours including day and afternoon.
This position will be expected to attend planning meetings with grant team and community partners to aid the effective implementation of the swimming lessons and safety of the participants. In addition, this position will assist with the selection of swimming instructors and lifeguards to participate in the swimming lessons.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Two years’ experience as a trained swim instructor
  • Must be a trained swim instructor
  • Must be able to ensure that each instructor, lifeguard, and volunteer associated with the Wilmington Swim Academy has completed and passed all safety requirements, including background checks and UNCW Protection of Minor Training Prior to the start of the lessons and in accordance with UNCW’s Protection of Minors policy.
  • Must be able to ensure that OIDI receives documentation regarding the date and successful completion of the background checks and UNCW Protection of Minors training for each instructor, lifeguard, and volunteer associated with the Wilmington Swim Academy prior to the start of the lessons and in accordance with UNCW,’s Protection of Minors policy.
  • Serve as a primary contact and must be available to the other grant team either on site or by phone during the program

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Two years’ experience as a trained swim instructor
  • Must have already completed the UNCW Protection of Minor Requirements
  • Lifeguard experience is preferred
