The College of Veterinary Medicine, Frank Stanton Veterinary Spectrum of Care Clinic seeks a Veterinary Assistant Team Lead for our primary care team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist in the provision of care to ill and injured animals as wells as providing assistance to clinicians, staff and professional students in the day to day operations of the Spectrum of Care Clinic; Provides basic patient care functions such as taking temperature, pulse and respiration monitoring, and assists with IV fluid administration; assists in the collection of lab specimens such as blood, urine, and feces for testing; assists with triage and patient assessment, restraint and treatments; training of students and employees in prescribed care of animals; comforts and cares for hospitalized animal patients; walks patients and provides clean housing, food, and water at all times; monitors patients and notifies technician or veterinarian of any unusual changes or symptoms; assists with the admission and discharge of patients including loading and unloading of animals; transports patients within the SOCC; delivers specimens to necropsy; stocks supplies including feed, medical supplies and equipment; cleans and disinfects treatment and surgical areas, animals housing units, adjacent areas and supporting equipment following prescribed sanitation procedures and observing rules of epidemiology to prevent spread of disease; stocks supplies; performs daily cleaning of outdoor dog exercise areas and SOC entrance and grounds; general cleaning of all animal areas, notifies supervisor of need for repairs; assists with laundry; provides clerical support when necessary; other duties as assigned; hours to be 1st shift  Monday - Friday; may work rotating weekends. This position is subject to a background check. 



In addition to the duties listed above, the candidate will play a significant role in onboarding, orientation, and training of Tier I and II Veterinary Assistants; assist with revision and/or development of standard operating procedures; assist with implementation of new protocols and workflows; ensure staff compliance to standard protocols; assist in inventory and equipment management. 


 


The candidate will also need strong written and verbal communication skills as this person will ensure timely and consistent dissemination of information on the clinical floor.  This person will act as a liaison between the veterinary assistant team and leadership. 


Physical Requirements

Pushing/pulling/lifting up to 50-75 pounds, exposure to animal dander and/or zoonotic diseases, exposure to needle sticks, biohazardous waste, and hazardous chemicals.

Required Experience

Per Classified Civil Svc Specs or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Hiring Range - $20.00-$24.28
