Lead Sterile Processing Technician

About Our Opportunity:

This position will be filled as a Sterile Processing Technician or as a Lead Sterile Processing Technician. The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.

 

This role provides sterile surgical instruments and hospital supplies used by the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) and associated clinics. Responsible for decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments, and supplies as needed for patient care. Collaborates with other members of the veterinary team to support and ensure optimal patient care is provided. Performs necessary work per manufacturer instructions to disassemble, clean, assemble, sterilize, store, and dispense/deliver/restock equipment and supplies according to prescribed procedure and aseptic techniques. Provides the instruction to veterinary technology students during Central Supply lab rotation. Provide instruction to entry level Sterile Processing Technicians to prepare them for the CRCST examination. Participate in the receiving, distribution and inventory of manufactured supplies and equipment as needed.  Provide excellent customer service to staff and students. Will participate in on-call after hours and holiday rotation.

 

What We’re Looking For: 
Sterile Processing Technician:
Required: 

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
  • Three years of sterile processing or surgical experience. 

 

Lead Sterile Processing Technician:
Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • One year of sterile processing or similar experience. 

Preferred:

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.

Additional Requirements:
  • Knowledge of basic math, fractions, decimals, and percent manipulations.
  • Computer and data entry skills. 
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and reasonable mechanical ability. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
