Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
In service of the University’s mission, Digital and Lifelong Learning works with units to support the development of digital programs and pedagogies, as well as other flexible and/or nontraditional learning experiences. We offer a variety of credit and professional (i.e., non-credit) programs through our unit and also provide support for programs across the University. In support of these programs, we provide strategy, coordination, and services to meet program needs, including but not limited to marketing, recruitment, program/course design and development, conference and event planning and support, and student/participant support. Through our programs and services, Digital and Lifelong Learning extends access to education for participants across the state and beyond and enables campus units to expand, share, and collaborate through support for their own research and educational programs.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The lead DLL project manager, will play a critical role in the successful planning, execution, and completion of projects. This position will work closely with clients and all DLL service areas to ensure that appropriate resources are engaged, and that projects and programs meet client objectives and adhere to quality standards while staying on schedule and within scope. Meticulous planning and organizational skills will be essential in creating project agreements, maintaining project schedules, and managing project resources. 
The overarching aim of the Digital and Lifelong Learning division is to support the university’s mission by fostering digital programs, pedagogies, and other flexible learning experiences. DLL achieves this by collaborating with various units within UNC-Chapel Hill to develop and implement these programs effectively.
1. Supporting Digital Programs and Pedagogies: The lead DLL project manager will contribute to the development and enhancement of digital programs and pedagogical approaches. This involves working closely with university units to identify needs and opportunities for digital education, and then providing strategic guidance and support to ensure successful implementation.
2. Offering Credit and Professional Education Programs: DLL offers a range of educational programs, including credit and professional education initiatives. The lead project manager will be instrumental in facilitating the planning, execution, and delivery of these programs, ensuring they align with the university’s educational goals and meet the needs of diverse learners.
3. Providing Support Services: DLL provides comprehensive support services to ensure the success of educational programs. This includes assistance with marketing, recruitment, program/course design and development, conference and event planning, and participant support. The lead project manager will oversee these services, ensuring they are delivered effectively and efficiently.
4. Extending Access to Education: A key objective of DLL is to extend access to education for participants across the state and beyond. The lead project manager will contribute to this goal by overseeing the development and delivery of educational programs that are accessible and inclusive.
5. Enabling Collaboration: DLL supports collaboration and knowledge-sharing among campus units by providing assistance for their research and educational programs. The lead project manager will facilitate collaboration efforts, helping units leverage resources and expertise to achieve their goals.
6. Commitment to Excellence: The position emphasizes a commitment to delivering exceptional results through well-organized and efficient project management. The lead project manager is expected to demonstrate meticulous planning, organizational skills, and attention to detail in all aspects of their work.
In summary, the lead DLL project manager will play a crucial role in advancing the university’s mission by overseeing the planning and execution of digital education programs and supporting the diverse learning needs of students and professionals within and beyond the UNC-Chapel Hill community.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to consulting or developing course content, curriculum, instructional technique/technology, distance education design, development or implementation, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Ability to independently manage multiple projects with competing priorities and adapt quickly when those priorities change.
* Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and analytical abilities.
* Experience driving decision-making in a consensus-driven organization.
* Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Five or more years of experience in project or program management, planning, or consulting in a relevant area such as: course content creation and development, curriculum design, instructional technique/technology, online learning design, development or implementation.
* Experience managing individual employees and cultivating strong teams.
* Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse, cross-functional group with varying levels of technical expertise.
* Experience with Project Management software and tools, such as Wrike.
* Expertise in project intake, agreements, and planning. 
* Practice collecting, organizing, analyzing, and presenting (both written and verbal) project information to diverse audiences and with varying levels of technical and project management knowledge.
* Experience coaching and mentoring others in project management practices.
* PMP certification or similar project management certification
* Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint.

* Will have strong critical thinking skills and a facility for solutions-focused problem solving. 
* Has deep expertise in project design and planning, preferably in higher education instructional design or program development. 
* Is committed to fostering a culture of peer-to-peer and organizational shared respect, accountability, and collegiality. 
* Can work independently and perform the principal responsibilities with minimal supervision and high degree of autonomy, escalating when appropriate.
