PURPOSE

The Lead Maintenance Technician is responsible for overseeing a team of 3-6 maintenance technicians in providing maintenance and repair services for residence halls and apartment-style living facilities in the University Housing department. The position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and works collaboratively with other departmental staff to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment for residents.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Functional Area 1: Oversee all Maintenance Work                                          

Percent Effort: 80          

  • Supervise, train and mentor a team of 3-6 maintenance technicians in performing maintenance and repair work such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and other systems.

  • Inspect work completed by the maintenance technicians to ensure it meets departmental and industry standards.

  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests and troubleshoot complex maintenance issues.

  • Coordinate daily work assignments and schedules for maintenance technicians to ensure timely and efficient completion of tasks

Functional Area 2: Safety Practices                                                    

Percent Effort: 10              

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and University policies and procedures.

  • Communicate effectively with housing leadership, residents, staff, and contractors to resolve maintenance issues and maintain positive relationships.

  • Attend departmental meetings and training sessions as required.

Functional Area 3:  Administration                                                

Percent Effort: 10                

  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and prepare reports as required.

  • Monitor and maintain an inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment needed for maintenance and repair tasks.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years of experience in maintenance, repair, or construction work.

  • Additional education may be used as a substitution for the minimum experience requirement.

    • Associate’s degree and one (1) year of experience.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to supervise and train a team of maintenance technicians.

  • Strong technical knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex maintenance issues.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to maintenance work.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Competence in computer applications such as Microsoft Office.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, and work in cramped or awkward positions for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions.

WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE

SALARY: $21.50 Hourly (Approx. $44,720 annually)
