Lead Lab Technician

This position serves as support staff for the academic programs housed within the Transportation and Power Division. The person hired for this position will be responsible for the maintenance of tools, equipment, inventory, assisting with OSHA compliance and other regulatory safety standards, classroom and lab support for instructional programs, procurement of materials for laboratory activities and facility maintenance. This position also supervises a part-time lab technician and multiple student workers.

Experience in shop management with knowledge of hazardous materials and OSHA compliance standards and procedures.
Knowledge of automotive and diesel systems and the operation of maintenance, repair, and training facilities. Knowledge of welding and nondestructive testing equipment and related facilities.
Capability to fabricate small projects with working knowledge of parts, components and supplies.
Ability to organize and track consumable products and services to ensure efficient and cost effective management of inventory.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel for record keeping purposes or the willingness and ability to learn the skills necessary.
Familiarity with automotive and/or welding tools and equipment
Ability to organize shop area, tool storage, and inventory items.
Ability to maintain inventory of items related to division programs using computer based programs. (MS Excel, MS Word, etc.)
Ability to perform or coordinate maintenance of shop equipment and document as needed.
Familiar with UAA, ADEC, EPA, and OSHA requirements for safety and hazardous materials handling and disposal.
Experience in equipment maintenance and loss prevention.

Minimum of two years experience with shop management or a technical occupation related to the programs within the Transportation and Power Division. Experience with purchasing and record keeping.
Proficiency with computer applications and processes or willingness to learn.
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
Successful candidate is expected to be well-rounded in a variety of areas associated with industry.
Previous supervisor experience preferred.
Evidence of organizational skills and having the ability to prioritize fluctuating workload with the ability to effectively manage time during the work day.
Evidence of computer competency skills and expertise using Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel.
Candidate has experience in a similar or related position.

Training and current certification in OSHA Forklift operation.
Commercial Drivers License is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

AKDL driver's license and clean driving record required.

This position is located on the Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package .
