Job Description

EdPlus at Arizona State University is currently seeking a motivated and creative Unity Developer to lead student developers and be a part of our new Immersive Experience Design workstream. This position will work closely with 3D modelers, UX Designers & ASU faculty to deliver eye-catching and effective 3D experiences for web, XR and mobile.

As the main Unity Developer for the Immersive Experience Design team, you will be responsible for the training of Student Unity Developers, overseeing the planning and implementing of game functionality and VFX, building the game code when necessary, identifying bottlenecks, and ensuring the quality of the finished product.

The ideal candidate should have experience planning, developing and implementing Unity experiences and the skill to work collaboratively with others to produce high-quality prototypes. The more experience you have playing, designing, or developing video games the better. We’re looking for professionals who combine creativity and intellectual curiosity to solve problems in new ways. A creative and fun team player, with excellent communication skills, and an interest in immersive technologies (AR,VR, Simulations/Game Design). Essential Duties

  • Oversee development of Student Unity developers.
  • Work with your team and designers to create scriptable assets for a wide range of experiences.
  • Implement features, user interface screens, transitions, animations, shaders, 3D assets and VFX as per communicated design.
  • Support content creation pipelines, tool development, and workflow improvements.
  • Build performant, sustainable, and maintainable technologies and code.
  • Assist in brainstorming concepts for upcoming projects.
  • Research new tools and emerging technologies.
  • Work collaboratively with other designers and developers, using design thinking and best practices to help achieve project objectives.
  • Multitask and work in a high-paced environment.
  • Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to address and mitigate these problems.
  • Help maintain code quality, organization, and automatization.
  • Review and commit code to remote repositories such as Git.  
  • Assume or coordinate other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Game Design, Visual Design, Fine Arts, Communications, Cognitive Science or in a related commercial arts field.4 years' experience in game design and/or production, which includes one 2 year of supervisory experience.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Evidence of portfolio of development work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Unity, including experience with scripting, textures, animation, GUI styles, and user session management.
  • Experience in C+ programming to write Scripts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and Data-Oriented Programming.
  • Experience with implementing shaders, UI and VFX.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of game physics and particle systems.
  • Experience with level design and planning.
  • Knowledge in Immersive technologies (AR, VR, MR).
  • Knowledge of game/simulation design.
  • Evidence of effective communication
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in an agile environment.
  • Experience with WebGL.

Working Environment

EdPlus at ASU is located at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. The center houses a diverse business community that links technology, research, education, and entrepreneurship to position ASU and Greater Phoenix as global leaders in the knowledge economy.

  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing.
  • Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties.
  • Regular review of completed tasks.
