Summary

The Lead Financial Analyst will provide in-depth Financial Analysis and Planning for the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. This position conducts complex financial analysis, prepares financial reports, performing cost assessments, monitoring financial transactions, prepares and monitors department budget. This position is responsible for the routine analysis of data, monthly reporting, and development of tool-sets within various platforms, financial modeling, and special projects to facilitate decision-making process from staff to executive level. The position requires the ability to work collaboratively with teams. This position assists in managing and overseeing the department's operating budget ($53 million).

 

This position is eligible to work a hybrid work arrangement.

 


Job Duties
  • Performs routine financial analysis, budget forecasting trend analysis and the monitoring of key financial metrics. 
  • Prepares and creates financial reports and forecast presentations, variances, and identifies risks and opportunities. 
  • Develops tool-sets within various platforms, financial modeling, and special projects to facilitate decision making process for Leadership, Faculty, and Staff. 
  • Identifies financial reporting issues, develops solutions, and follows through to ensure correction. 
  • Effectively communicates with various internal and external stakeholders to facilitate collection and analysis of financial data.
  • Communicates and coordinates with Department Leadership on a variety of personnel, budgetary, and financial issues, related to administrative support, financial oversight and guidance.
  • Prepares department budget and monitors budgets for all accounts.
  • Monitors expenses and financial accounts.
  • Supervises Financial Analyst, including training and development, assigning responsibilities, and conducting annual performance evaluations. 
  • Collaborates with Lead, Research Administration on pre-and/or post-award grant management activities and administration including review of grant revenues and expenditures. Analyzes fiscal performance with spending/post-award financing. 
  • Leads the preparation and submission of documentation for long term financing requests.
  • Leads the creation and presentation of new financial models, ad hoc financial analysis, and business case support. 
  • Position requires experience and knowledge of general healthcare workflow, general accounting, finance concepts, technical language, benchmarking, business modeling, and reporting statistical information in graphical and other presentation formats.
  • Identifies trends, and recommends actions based on sound analysis.
  • Analyzes data to improve operational efficiency and implement outcomes.
  • Prepares and maintains report templates for analysis and financial forecasting.
  • Provides creative alternatives and recommendations to reduce costs and improve financial performance.
  • Develops financial models, conducts benchmarking and processes analysis.
  • Conducts business studies on past, future and comparative performance and develop forecast models. 
  • Develops tools and analytics to perform various types of financial analysis on faculty portfolios. 
  • Reviews and approves financial entries and transactions, such as journal entries or purchase orders.
  • Participates and/or leads special projects as needed.
  • Collaborates with project stakeholders to understand their project goals, tasks and deadlines.
  • Provides work direction and technical guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Leads month end close and external financial audit.
  • Reviews and interprets regulatory guidance and works to develop advanced subject matter knowledge.
     

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field.
  • Six years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree (MBA, MHA, or related).
  • Experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or long term planning.
  • Experience with financial models.
  • Experience with Excel (pivot tables, formulas, etc.).
  • Mastery knowledge of SAP and healthcare specific knowledge.
