This position functions as a Clinical Research Finance Coordinator III, Team Lead (CRFC III, Team Lead), responsible for evaluating and working to improve operational workflow within the Research Finance team by prioritising and delegating tasks within the unit. You will be responsible for the oversight of highly sophisticated and pivotal projects that are assigned by the Manager of Research. You will play a vital role in supporting pre/post-award project management from award notification to closeout, and directly accountable for ensuring timely and appropriate set-up and administration of research/academic accounts, supervising allowable spending thresholds, and reporting per sponsor/donor requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and updates Medicare Coverage Analysis grids in order to assess which procedures/services within the protocol are covered under Medicare guidelines. Works in conjunction with Cedars-Sinai Industry Sponsored Research Office in order to produce a final document. 
  • Critically evaluates research protocols to assess resource needs; assessment includes all research procedures, clinical research staff time, investigator time, and costs from ancillary departments.
  • Develops clinical trial budgets and negotiates with industry sponsors. Renegotiates budgets as part of trial maintenance through amendments. 
  • Creates and finalizes payment terms (contract language) in conjunction with industry sponsor.
  • Advises and directs the research budgetary/billing workflow within the unit as well as provides consultation to staff responsible for said tasks. 
  • Develops and governs the standard operating procedures in order to achieve consistent results.
  • Develops and trains internal and external customers on budgetary/billing workflows. 
  • Leads the implementation of new applications and/or systems within the unit.
  • Responds to industry sponsor concerns that are called out by internal/external means. 
  • Leads cross functional meetings and provides updates on the status of the research finance team. 
  • Identifies quality and performance improvement opportunities and provides recommendations to improve operational efficiency within the unit.
  • Acts as a team lead to include supervising the work of others, assigning or allocating work to team, and ensuring tasks are completed according to deadlines and quality standards.
  • Plans, leads, and advises work of staff to ensure goals and objectives are completed within established budget and deadlines are met.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • CCRP - Certification in Clinical Research preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Three years clinical research budgeting/billing experience required
