Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Campus Recreation provides a diverse and intentional recreational program in a safe, inclusive, and accessible environment which enhances the social, mental, and physical well-being of the entire University community. With this mission as the focus, Campus Recreation maintains several facilities around campus to help students stay active. In addition to the Rams Head Recreation Center and the Student Recreation Center, there is an indoor and outdoor pool, a number of outdoor courts for tennis, basketball, volleyball and paddle tennis, and lighted fields for sport club practices/matches and team intramural sports. Students have about 50 sport clubs and more than 40 intramural sports for men’s, women’s, and co-rec teams; in addition to a variety of aquatic and fitness classes/programs, expeditions, challenge course and climbing.
Position Summary
Selected candidate will be responsible for facilitating both high and low element challenge course and team building programs for the Carolina Adventures Challenge Course located at the Outdoor Education Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The selected candidate will also be responsible for supervising and mentoring co-facilitators during challenge course and team building programs, as well as during staff trainings. Programs take place weekdays, weekends, and some evenings during both the school year and summer. Candidates for this position must be comfortable working with all age groups, leading group activities, and working at heights.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience facilitating challenge course and team building programs. • Experience with planning; appropriately selecting games, activities, team challenges and constructed “low course” elements. • Experience supervising co-facilitators in a challenge course and/or team building setting. •Working knowledge of group dynamics and team development. • Applicants must attend and scheduled staff trainings and meetings. • Applicants must obtain and maintain current CPR and Community First Aid certifications upon hiring.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
