General Notes

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking to fill a lead campus planner position within the Planning, Design and Construction Department. Reporting to the Associate Director for Planning, the position will focus on campus-wide planning efforts, with a significant focus on mobility planning, including parking and transportation, accessibility, wayfinding, and campus mobility standards. The planner will lead a team of professional staff providing strategy, oversight and expertise in executing master plans, campus plans, program plans and pre-design activities for all UT Austin campuses.

Purpose

Provide leadership, strategy, oversight and expertise in executing master plans, campus plans, program plans and pre-design activities for all UT Austin campuses. Support development and implementation of campus standards, and support long-term capital investment planning.


Responsibilities

  • As a Campus Planner specializing in Transportation and Mobility Planning, you will play a key role in designing and implementing sustainable, efficient, and innovative transportation solutions for our campus community. Your primary focus will be on developing strategies to enhance mobility, reduce congestion, and promote accessibility while considering environmental impact and user experience. Coordinate with critical partners on campus including Parking and Transportation services.
  • Lead team of planning staff and other professionals executing general master plans, campus plans, program plans and pre-design activities for all UT Austin campuses. Mentor, guide, manage planning staff individually, and as a collective team. Provide leadership in campus and transportation network planning, lead collaboration with campus stakeholders, identify and guide data collection analysis, identify and coordinate relevant regulatory information.  
  • Disseminate directives from Planning, Design and Construction Departmental leadership to team in order to achieve maximum success in meeting UT mission and vision. In collaboration with Associate Director for Planning and Design, develop commonalities and best practices, and identify the right work at the right time to deliver the highest value.
  • Prioritize and allocate resources to ensure delivery of key initiatives, and maintain agility to maximize resource utilization. Communicate and advise leadership within PDC and Campus Operations in developing projects and initiatives. Be flexible to adapt to ongoing changing needs and priorities. Interpret information and ascertain a plan of action, utilizing existing resources and staff.
  • Support development and implementation of capital investment program. Support development and oversight of campus standards.
  • Provide effective visual, verbal, and written communications at all levels of the organization. Serve as primary point contact with campus partners in matters related to mobility plans, as well as other broader campus initiatives.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, City Planning, Land Use, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field. Five years experience in campus or urban planning with a focus on transportation and mobility, or a related field. Familiarity with GIS (Geographic Information System) and transportation modeling software. Understanding of sustainability principles in transportation planning. Must be a proactive and strategic thinker who can balance the diverse needs of a campus community while promoting sustainable and efficient planning solutions. Excellent organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple simultaneous activities in a diverse and complex environment. Ability to manage change and work effectively in a changing environment. Strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in all directions of the organization. Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.


Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, City Planning, Land Use, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field. Professionally Certified Planner, licensed Architect, or Engineer (or ability to become registered within six months) in the State of Texas. Eight or more years of experience leading and managing professional staff in. Related specialty certificates such as LEED AP, PTP, and equivalent.


Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).


Salary Range

$110,000 + depending on qualifications

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
