Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The School of Education is an academic unit reporting to the Provost. The School is a major center of research, teaching, and public service within the State of North Carolina, the nation, and the world. The School offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs. The mission of the School of Education is to conduct research, and generate basic and applied knowledge about human development, educational technology and entrepreneurship, teaching and learning, school counseling, school psychology, administration, as well as educational policy and leadership; prepare leaders in the profession of education by conducting outstanding research, teaching, and service; and assist in the development of strong and effective public schools in North Carolina. In order to fulfill its mission, the School is organized into three academic divisions: (1) Culture, Curriculum, & Teacher Education (CCATE), (2) Learning, Development & Psychological Sciences (LDPS), and (3) Educational Policy, Organization, & Leadership (EPOL).
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
This Lead Automation and Process Technician position will lead and manage projects related to improving the efficiency of the school’s information systems by employing aspects of the Microsoft Power Platform, and other University supported platforms. This role will include meeting, planning, and working with involved parties to develop, test and implement information technology solutions in accordance with UNC policies and EdIT guidance. The School of Education primarily leverages Microsoft-based products, including many parts of the Microsoft Power Platform. This position will work closely with the EdIT staff overseeing the process and being a point of contact for troubleshooting, improving, and diagnosing issues with the school’s information systems related to Power Platform and other information technology processes. The Lead Automation and Process Technician will be the primary administrator for managing and implementing changes to process technical solutions in place throughout the school. This position will assist the EdIT staff with IT response and troubleshooting to help provide consistent support to areas and users that EdIT supports. This is a full-time position for 2 years.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Technology Integration; Networking Technology, or related areas and two years of experience in the Information Technology field related to the position’s role; or a
- Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in the Information Technology Field related to the position’s role, or a
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math or Engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in the Information Technology Field related to the position’s role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Journey level requires an additional one year of experience.
- Advanced level requires an additional two years of experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
-Customer service oriented and collaboration skills.
-High level process evaluation, prototyping and troubleshooting skills.
-Solution oriented and able to develop solutions based on user requirements.
-Technical support experience at a service desk or client-oriented support system.
-Ability to work independently.
-Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and usage.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
-Data management and Data structuring experience
-Understanding of SharePoint permissions and key components
-Power Platform experience including Lists, Forms, Power Automate, SharePoint, Teams, and Power
-Knowledge of UNC-CH IT structure and policies that affect deployment, implementation and support.
-Knowledge of user interface design
-Coding experience with JSON, Python, and other data related tools.
