Lead Advanced Practice Clinician (full-time) – University Health Services – Division of Student Affairs

Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for the position of Lead Advanced Practice Clinician (Lead APC) with University Health Services (UHS) within the Community Health and Well-Being Unit of the Division of Student Affairs. The Lead APC is a full-time, 12-month, recurring position with a start date on or after January 8th, 2024. Reporting to the Medical Director of University Health Services, the Lead Advanced Practice Clinician will have the opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team of highly skilled practitioners, health promotion and administrative professionals.

The Lead APC is responsible for providing quality primary healthcare and related services to a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students in a medical practice setting. This position is predominantly clinical with administrative and leadership duties representing the other APCs and improving clinical processes at UHS. This person must work independently and will have access to the Executive Director, Medical Director, and advanced practice colleagues as needed. UHS performs close to 30,000 patient contact visits annually and is a dynamic and collaborative work environment that respects and supports the professional development of its staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide primary care healthcare for undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Contribute as an active member of the UHS Leadership Team.

  • Innovate processes to expand and improve clinical care at UHS.

  • Participate as lead clinician in the Quality Improvement Team and AAAHC accreditation.

  • Collaborate with the Health Promotion team to conduct patient experience surveys.

  • Share responsibility for maintaining clinical schedules.

  • Consult with students, faculty, staff, families, and other providers regarding health issues or concerns.

  • Maintain complete and accurate electronic medical documentation in compliance with ethics, law, and standard methodologies.

  • Follow confidentiality requirements as set by HIPAA, FERPA, federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Share responsibility with UHS staff for evening and weekend hours.

  • Participate in department, divisional, and other University committees as assigned.

  • Attend and participate in regular UHS staff and Leadership meetings, case conferences, and in-service/professional development training.

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • CRNP or PA-C degree from an accredited university.

  • 3-5 years of related experience required

  • Certified in the State of Pennsylvania to practice medicine. License must be in good standing and CME requirements must be up to date.

  • Able to professionally handle multiple and competing priorities and to thrive in a high volume environment.

  • Proven record of success and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including the ability to work well with a globally diverse student population.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage conflict, clear professional boundaries, and ability to work collegially and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in treating young adult populations, emergency room or urgent healthcare, college health, women’s health, LGBTQIA+ health, and gender affirming care.

  • Clinical excellence in reproductive and sexual health, including placement of long-acting reversible contraception, PrEP.

  • Successful implementation of quality improvement/quality assurance projects.

  • Leadership experience in clinical teams.
