Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University Law School (GW Law) is a global law school that exists to make an impact on the law through the leadership of our diverse faculty and staff, the extraordinary influence of our extensive alumni network, and our location in the heart of downtown Washington, DC. GW Law is offering multiple one-year fellowships to recent law school graduates. This is a one-year position that will begin in March 2024 and end in March 2025. The GW Law fellowships allow graduates to hone and apply their legal skills while gaining insight into Clinical legal education, Field Placement, Law Library Public Services, Admissions, and many other areas within the law school. Each fellowship is connected to a particular law school department and the fellow works closely with the respective administrator, clinical director, professor or Associate Dean.
GW Law School Fellows are invited to partake in the academic life of GW Law and mentored by senior law school staff and faculty. The successful candidate will join a team and expected to provide strategic advice to the university and will assist with a variety of legal and policy issues that confront a large urban teaching and research institution.
GW Law School Fellow assignments may include the following:
  • Teaching the Introduction to the 1L Classroom course or assist with other instruction
  • Supporting the Assistant Dean for Field Placement with compliance matters related to the American Bar Association Standards and Rules of Procedure
  • Conducting comparative research related to externship programs at market-basket institutions as well as other program-related initiatives
  • Assists with recruitment of new students, including on-campus welcome/information sessions and law school tours
  • Assists with virtual interviews of law school candidates, including transfers
  • Assists with pipeline programs, including those with select colleges and high schools
  • Provide support to reference librarians in: Preparing research guides; library exhibits; compile awareness materials for faculty; Archiving
  • Assist in researching developments in copyright law and related best practices for interlibrary loan operations

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold an Associate’s degree in a relevant program plus two years of relevant professional experience is necessary, or a Bachelor’s degree. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
  • Qualified candidates will hold a Juris Doctorate degree.
  • Admission to a state bar is not required at commencement of the fellowship, but the successful candidate must sit for a bar exam by September 2024.
  • Driver’s license and willingness to travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • GW Law Fellows should possess excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • The ability to learn new legal principles, manage a sizeable volume of work and deadlines, and respond to the needs of various stakeholders is key.
  • The successful candidate will be a diligent and hard worker, and a thinker who thrives in and can contribute to their office’s fast-paced, collegial team environment.
Typical Hiring Range Commensurate with Experience.
