Summary of Duties

The Moritz College of Law is an integral part of one of the world’s great educational institutions. Founded in 1891 and consistently the top-ranked law school in Ohio, the Moritz College of Law has grown into one of the nation’s preeminent public law schools and one of the most respected law schools in the world. The Moritz Law Library’s 700,000 volume equivalents comprise the most extensive law library collection in Ohio. The library is an integral part of the vibrant intellectual life at the College. We seek a Reference Librarian who is committed to our high level of excellence and service.

The primary responsibilities of this position include providing, in a service-oriented environment, sophisticated research and reference assistance to faculty, students, and other users of the Moritz Law Library; each year teaching the required firs-year Legal Analysis and Writing I (LAW I) course, which includes legal research, or an advanced legal research course; and occasionally lecturing on legal research to classes within the College of Law and throughout the university.

Another important responsibility of this position is the ability to develop and manage new digital initiatives for the law library. This includes setting priorities and collaborating with others on specialized digitization projects, and managing content for the faculty scholarship repository, the library’s website, and on-line research guides.

The Reference Librarian may also take part in the evaluation and selection of information resources, participate in the Moritz Law Library’s faculty and law review liaison programs, work on special projects, and serve on Law Library, College of Law, and University committees. Some evening and weekend hours are required. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Public Services.

Required Qualifications

Master of Library Science from an ALA accredited (or foreign equivalent) school and a JD from an ABA accredited (or foreign equivalent) institution; in-depth knowledge of legal resources and legal research in electronic and print formats; strong service orientation; excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Desired Qualifications

Experience working in an academic law library; experience teaching at the college level or above, especially courses in legal research or writing and related areas; knowledge of sources and research methods in non-law disciplines; interest or experience in developing digital content such as research guides and digital collections.

Target Salary $50,000.00 - $75,000.00 Annually
