The UAF Animal Resources Center (ARC) is seeking a research technician to join the team at the UAF Large Animal Research Station (LARS).
LARS research technicians are involved in and sometimes direct (under supervision) many aspects of animal husbandry, farm operations and management, maintenance duties, pasture management and animal training. This position will provide opportunities to work directly with animals to train/habituate them to being handled for research and teaching purposes, as well as manage the safety program at the farm. It will also provide opportunities to develop enrichment plans for reindeer and muskoxen.

To thrive in this position, you should be a motivated self-starter with a positive attitude that takes initiative to get things done. You must be able to work cooperatively with others to achieve goals in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions (including extreme weather) and do what it takes to keep the farm running. Must be able to perform duties typical of farm work: lifting, twisting, running, climbing and pushing. Must be comfortable working in close proximity to large animals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of college classes or certificate in a field relevant to the research, four years experience in a field relevant to the research or an equivalent combination of training and experience; valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one. Completion of IACUC/Safety training is required within the first week of employment

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule , Grade 77, based on education and experience.
