Summary of Job Duties:

The Landscape Specialist is responsible for general landscaping & grounds maintenance activities for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture.
Job Duties:
Assists with weed control of the property including spraying and pulling. Must be able to properly plant shrubs, trees, bedding plants and sod. Assists in cleaning of maintenance building and helping with table and chair setups for meetings in Administration Boardroom.
Recognizes and respects safety features of each machine. Responsible for equipment upkeep including oil changes and blade sharpening. Proficient in operation of commercial lawn equipment including mowers, weed trimmers, hedge trimmers, and chainsaws. Reads manuals on all existing equipment. Attends all safety meetings. Responsible for wearing clothing and PPE suitable for the job. Records equipment maintenance in mechanical log.
Responsible for cleaning of debris from parking lot, sidewalks, streets, and patios. Maintains parking lot paint. Cleans out gutters. Picks up trash from streets. Removes weeds from sidewalk and road cracks when needed. Applies ice melting chemicals in slick weather.
Responsible for securing tools, equipment, vehicles, and buildings by properly locking and storing and key removal. Responsible for reporting all suspicious activities on campus to supervisor. Reports broken windows, broken security fence or other maintenance issues to supervisor. Responsible for knowing emergency contact phone numbers.
Works as outlined by supervisor according to seasonal pressures. Follows written and oral instructions from supervisor. Keeps track of tools and cares for them properly. Maintains a valid Arkansas driver's license.
Communicates with co-workers and responds to questions regarding work completed or in progress. Uses proper techniques in mowing, edging, planting, mulching, soil prep and seeding, lawn renovations, fertilization, and pruning. Picks up supplies ordered from vendors.
Must be able to lift heavy objects. Assists with repair of broken sprinklers.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus four years of experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or related area is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of the methods & techniques used in landscaping & grounds maintenance. Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment. Ability to maintain records & estimate landscaping & grounds maintenance needs.
