Landscape Specialist

MR02: Starting rate dependent on candidate’s qualifications and experience

The Facilities Services Department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of all campus facilities, which includes buildings, grounds, and utility systems. The Landscape Aide provides general cleaning and grooming of campus grounds.

Duties/Responsibilities:

This position requires proven horticulture knowledge and experience to successfully lead and execute special projects involving landscape renovations and long-term landscape bed maintenance. This position will be responsible for scheduling and prioritizing their own job duties and tasks. They will also be responsible for managing and monitoring event set up and tear down to help protect the turf and landscape when possible.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate skid steer loaders, tractors, trenchers, and other common landscape equipment
  • Ability to operate small hand-held landscaping equipment
  • Knowledge of commonly used plants and trees for our region.
  • Knowledge of regional horticulture practices
  • Ability to read and understand landscape plans
  • Ability to calibrate and clean/sterilize chemical application equipment
  • Knowledge of chemicals commonly used within the landscape industry
  • Knowledge of how to apply chemicals safely
  • Must have good communication, listening, and problem-solving skills
 



Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 4 years of combined work experience/education within the landscape industry.
  • Valid TN Driver’s license
  • All Facilities Services personnel are considered "Essential Personnel." In the event of extraordinary situations, the University may suspend normal operations and classes in whole or part. In such instances, all Essential Personnel must fulfill their duties in order to (1) ensure the continuation of critical University operations; (2) attend to the needs of students and other members of the University community; and (3) protect the University’s assets. Essential Personnel are expected to come to work in any and all extraordinary/emergency situations unless it is unsafe to do so or they are specifically excused by their supervisor.
