Nature of Work:

Responsible for daily activities associated with processing of tissues as received from Dermatological procedures; participation in the education of fellow coworkers; and participation in the quality assurance activities that result from these processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs gross examinations, dissection, and description of tissues received in Dermatology and Oral Pathology.
  • Workload is prioritized and managed to meet expected Turn-Around-Time specific specimen requirements.
  • Competence is maintained and new skills are added as procedures and technologies change.
  • Tissue sampling, gross descriptions, and dictations are accurate and according to procedure.
  • Specimens are photographed when appropriate for archival purposes.
  • Gross area procedures are communicated to staff in a clear, concise manner.
  • Problems are resolved with appropriate consultation and communication to Lab Manager and Dermatopathologists
  • Demonstrates knowledge of quality, safety, and compliance programs.
  • Compliance guidelines are applied to testing and reporting activities.
  • Chemicals, hazardous wastes, and sharps are handled accurately and safely.
  • Quality Assurance data is collected and summarized for reporting as needed.
  • Provides back up to Logging staff when necessary.

Ancillary Duties:

  • Suggestions are made for Process Improvement initiatives.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and maintenance of    Dermatopathology protocols and budgetary goals.
  • Gross manual is updated annually to reflect current methodology, medical staff requests, and all federal, state, and laboratory accreditation standards.
  • Electronic information/data systems are used to accurately access and input tissue sample information and departmental communications.
  • Budget goals are set and maintained through participation in departmental meetings and appropriate usage of resources.
  • Performs area-specific support/clinical activities.
  • Accuracy and quality are maintained for activities.
  • Specific support functions are handled in an organized and timely fashion.
  • Deadlines for activities are met.
  • Specific support functions are handled in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $44,016 to $54,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the assigned work 

Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Conditions of Employment: 

  • Job requires sitting, standing for prolonged periods, frequently walking, bending/stooping.
  •  Repetitive motion: Use of forceps, scalpel, computer keyboard and foot pedals. 
  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. 
  • May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In accordance with CLIA requirements for high complexity testing, a Bachelor’s or Associates Degree with at least 24-semester hours of combined credits in Chemistry and Biology.
