The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the position of Laboratory Technologist, located within the Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences department. The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical support in the Virology/Immunology/Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory by learning and performing routine procedures on clinical specimens in the course of diagnostic testing or clinical research. Establishes the presence and identification of disease-causing agents or conditions. Assists with reporting data to clinical personnel. Depending on experience and qualifications of successful candidate, individual will be hired in as a Laboratory Technologist 1, Laboratory Technologist 2, Senior Laboratory Technologist 1, or Senior Laboratory Technologist 2.

Qualifications

 

Typical Responsibilities:

Learns and performs basic routine testing procedures on various clinical specimens to establish the presence and identification of disease-causing agents or conditions. Performs basic quality control, quality assurance procedures, and trouble shooting. Assists with reporting data to clinical personnel. Adheres to all safety procedures as required by the University and the laboratory. Adheres to college and laboratory policies involving client confidentiality.

Learns and performs laboratory quality assurance and quality control procedures. If applicable, documents problems with procedures and equipment. Trains student employees and provides minor supervision. Assists with the development and implementation of new laboratory procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, medical technology, or related field
• Familiarity with basic laboratory procedures
