Physical Requirements
Sitting and standing for long periods of time. Lifting, pushing, pulling of objects up to 20 lbs. Exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, bloodborne/airborne pathogens and animal handling. Effectively communicating with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Shift
Monday – Friday, with some possible nights and weekends depending upon research project.
Job Summary
The College of Pharmacy at the University of Kentucky is seeking to hire a Laboratory Technician for the laboratory of Dr. Chang Guo Zhan.
The Technician will be responsible for the preparation of protein drug candidates that have been discovered in our lab. The prepared protein will be used by other lab members to determine the in vivo activities in animals. They will develop stable cell lines, express proteins in an incubator or bioreactor, prepare material for protein purification, and purify the proteins expressed in the media.
For the animal studies on the proteins drug candidates conducted by other lab members, plasma samples will be collected for determining the pharmacokinetic profiles of the proteins. The Lab Technician will be expected to measure the enzyme activity and concentrations in plasma samples collected by other members of the lab.
The Technician will maintain supply and sample inventory, organize lab space, maintain safety documentation, manage chemical and biohazard waste.

Preferred Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years experience preferred.
