About the Department
 

Krishnan laboratory is at the forefront of applying DNA nanotechnology for targeting small molecules specifically to diseased cells with organelle-level precision. Currently, our lab is developing high-accuracy, DNA-based diagnostic probes for therapeutic applications by targeting them to lysosomes in tumor-associated macrophages. While you are here, your project will involve optimizing the sequence and structure of our DNA nanodevices to achieve the highest efficiency and selectivity for cellular delivery.


Job Summary
 

The Krishnan lab is seeking a Laboratory Technician that will perform routine assignments related to scientific research projects. The Lab Tech will ensure compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. This position will analyze possible solutions using standard procedures, writes articles, reports and manuscripts. Lastly, the ideal candidate will be drafting presentations on research findings.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct DNA nanostructures displaying organic small-molecules and characterizes them biochemically and cell biologically.

  • Assist with building research databases, and builds competence in research techniques or methods, related to immunology, cell culture, imaging.

  • Analyze and maintains data and/or specimens, and conducts literature reviews.

  • Install, sets up and performs experiments under PI supervision.

  • Interact with students and other laboratory staff to conduct research.

  • Assist with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents for research presentations.

  • Understand and up tp date with background scientific literature regarding their projects.

  • This job provides technical and administrative support in a laboratory environment performing basic laboratory techniques, research and analysis under direction.

  • Provides routine or standardized laboratory duties by collecting data in support of research projects under direct supervision.

  • Collects and enters data. Assists in analysis of data and with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications


Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field.
     

Experience:

  • Experience in biological chemistry, ion channel function, or multiparameter flow cytometry.

  • Experience with handling and breeding mice and related genotyping of strains.

  • Experience with ELISA, qRT-PCR, and cell culture.

  • Basic lab skills including pipetting, buffer/reagents preparation.

Preferred Competencies

  • Knowledge in relevant scientific field.

  • Knowledge of research techniques or methods relevant to the lab (preparation of DNA nanodevices, running SDS-PAGE gels, live-imaging approaches to cell biological problems,  intracellular traffic, i.e., mechanisms of endocytosis or exocytosis).

  • Detail-oriented and well organized.

  • Follow written and verbal instructions and execute assignments.

  • Work independently, seeking clarification and guidance where needed.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking and an aptitude for continuous learning, especially with regard to complex instrumentation and techniques.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to adapt to a changing work environment.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to ask questions and provide updates on work progress sufficient technical detail.
