Laboratory Technician in Cellular and Molecular Biology

The technician will provide support for the principal investigator and students working in projects related to the characterization and function of ion channels in protozoan parasites. The technician will be primarily responsible of the maintenance of laboratory equipment, organize and order reagents, and perform additional laboratory duties as assigned, included but not limited to preparation of media and reagents, maintenance of parasites and mammalian cells, purification of recombinant proteins and preparation of liposomes for electrophysiology recordings. Additionally, the technician will oversee the update of laboratory chemical and cellular stocks, protocols and data backup.

Essential Duties

  • Laboratory general organization and assistance with purchases
  • Preparation of cell culture media and reagents
  • Mammalian cells culture.
  • Parasite strain maintenance.
  • Expression and purification of recombinant proteins
  • Analytical assessment of strains by western blot and immunofluorescence analysis
  • Preparation of liposomes
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Strong communication and organizational skills are required. 
  • Working knowledge of molecular and cell biology techniques that include mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, and protein biochemistry. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently and meet deadlines. 
EDUCATION:
  • Minimum PhD in cell biology or related fields. 
  • Postdoctoral experience is desirable. 



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
