Laboratory Technician - Histology

Job Summary

 

The successful candidate will perform routine or specialized diagnostic procedures/tests for visualization of microscopic anatomy of animal tissues, cell structures for the pathologists’ interpretation, in support of the diagnostic and research missions of the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL). Pay for this role is between $15.00 and $20.00 per hour based on experience and hiring manager discretion. 
   
 

Required:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in science related field (Veterinary nursing degrees may also be considered)
  • 6 months of laboratory experience  
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required experience (Associate’s degree and 2.5 years of relevant work experience)
  • Must have the ability to multitask and be flexible in order to accomplish daily tasks
  • Ability to work independently under moderate supervision
  • Training in general biological and/or chemical laboratory procedures/techniques, general reagent/media preparation, and lab maintenance
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify problems, analyze information and implement solutions
  • Capable of being cross-trained with duties and activities of other lab positions to provide back-up coverage
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word (data entry / analysis)

 
 

Preferred:

 

  • Knowledge of immunohistochemical procedures
  • Degree in biology or animal sciences  
  • Course work that includes at least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 hours of science courses that include 6 semesters hours of chemistry or 6 semester hours of biology; and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination
