Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

Under general supervision, process samples, set up microbiologic assays for the detection of pathogenic bacteria; set up fecal floatation samples for the detection of avian parasites; perform data entry, results entry, and order tests with laboratory information management system (LIMS); and perform routine laboratory maintenance duties such as autoclaving biohazardous waste, restocking supplies, making reagents/media, and general preventative maintenance on equipment. Eligibility and understanding of BSL-2 laboratory safety guidelines and work environment is required.


Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an approved course* for laboratory assistants OR Two years of chemical, or clinical or public health laboratory experience.   Training in medical technology or education in college with courses in laboratory sciences may be substituted, year for year, for experience.   

  • Ability to work overtime and rotate on weekend duty/holidays, if necessary

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One or more years of microbiology lab experience

  • Familiarity with veterinary medicine

  • Experience with medical or laboratory database

  • Experience in sterile technique and handling biological specimens
