Description of Work Unit
At the CSU VTH, we exist to educate the next generation of veterinarians by providing exceptional veterinary care and service to the community…every day. This work unit exists to care for the basic needs of the animals at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and to provide routine disinfection and service to all areas of the hospital, which serves as a teaching facility for veterinary students, as a medical facility for veterinary research, and as a public animal clinic for exotic, large and small animals.
Position Summary
The position exists to perform daily cleaning and disinfection of clinical spaces within the Johnson Family Equine Hospital. This includes the exam rooms, Central Supply, Pharmacy, locker rooms and restrooms.
Minimum Qualifications
One year (12 months full time 40 hours/week) of commercial cleaning experience.
Substitutions
The highly desired candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, personal characteristics, and experience directly related and critical to this position: *Demonstrated ability to contain/minimize contamination on hallway floors. * One or more year(s) of experience cleaning within a hospital setting. * Demonstrated time management and prioritization skills * Demonstrated ability to work with chemicals to clean/disinfect surfaces. * Safe cleaning practices. * Attention to detail with work product.

Duty/Responsibility
  • Appliy disinfectant to surgery tables, pads, and trays, as well as sinks, counters, walls, gurneys, and other surfaces using disinfectant dispenser and hose units.
  • Scrub surfaces to remove blood, feces, hair, tissue, urine, etc.
  • Dust and disinfects surgery lamps, phones, canisters, and miscellaneous equipment.
  • Remove trash from all rooms.
  • Hoses out trash receptacles.
  • Recycle paper, aluminum, and cardboard.

  • Apply disinfectant to all clinical exam floors, and to all hallways using automatic disinfectant dispensers and hose units.
  • Hand-scrub floors to remove blood, feces, hair, urine, tissue, etc.
  • Squeegee floors to remove excess disinfectant solution.
  • In areas without hoses and disinfectant dispensers, uses floor scrubbers and hand mopping to clean the hallways.
  • Clean out floor drains to remove blood, feces, hair, urine, tissue, etc.
  • Machine-scrub floors monthly to maintain cleanliness and sterility.
