Job Summary:

The Ingram lab in the Department of Anesthesiology studies synaptic changes in various areas of the brain induced by acute and chronic pain and drugs of abuse. We use animal models of pain and addiction and ex vivo brain slices for whole-cell electrophysiological recordings examining changes in neurotransmitter release and ion channel, transporter, and G protein-coupled receptor function. We use anatomical tracing techniques and optogenetic techniques with viral constructs and light-activated channels to stimulate/inhibit neurotransmitter release. We are seeking an RSP who will perform lab management, including mouse/rat colony maintenance, as well as to conduct/assist with experiments. Experiments include, but are not limited to, stereotaxic surgeries, patch-clamp electrophysiology in brain-slice preparations, and in vivo two-photon microscopy. Responsibilities include preparing solutions, operation, and general maintenance of instruments, as well as data collection and analysis. It is an opportunity to learn cutting-edge technologies and to work on important projects with translational significance.

The candidate should have experience in neuroscience, biology, psychology, or related fields; experience with mouse/rat handling is required and having microsurgery level/fine motor skills is a plus. The successful candidate should have experience in at least one of these areas: electrophysiology (in vivo or in vitro electrophysiological recordings), fluorescence imaging (confocal, two-photon…) or anatomical studies. This position will work in a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions.
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects; for example, perform experiments and tabulate, analyze research, pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials, and other items as needed.
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results also perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced.
  • Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas as well as disposing of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines.
  • Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary.
  • Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit, and related issues.
  • Assist in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices, and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs as well as assisting to train junior team members (intermediate level).

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year professional level research experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • Prior experience with immunohistological techniques
  • One (1) or more years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory
  • One (1) or more years of experience performing stereotaxic surgeries for intracranial microinjections.
  • One (1) or more years of experience performing whole-cell patch-clamp electrophysiological experiments and analyses.

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as:

Entry Level: $42,088 - $53,536

Intermediate Level: $45,801 - $58,259
