Job Description:

  • Supports children and families in Early Childhood (EC) by building relationships, being a public face available to answer questions, solve problems, and facilitate connections. 
  • Makes connections between students, families, grade levels, divisions, and campuses.
  • Coordinates all-building assemblies and gatherings and facilitates an all-building gathering at least once a quarter.
  • Participates in the admissions, enrollment, and placement processes for EC and placement in 3rd grade, including attending playgroups in coordination with the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.
  • Works across departments in support of ensuring continuity for students with Learning and Counseling, Extended Day, and Coordinator for Wellness and Equal Opportunity Programs, Deputy Title IX Coordinator.
  • Participates in the hiring of faculty and staff.
  • Aids in the development of an orientation program and continued support for new parents.
  • Reads progress reports.
  • Works with the Director, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Dean of Teaching and Learning, to incorporate diversity, equity and inclusion goals throughout program.
  • Establishes a positive, cooperative working relationship with other school administrators.
  • Works with administration and counselors to revise and update the student handbook and code of conduct for EC including provisions regarding school climate.
  • Serves as the point person for all student behavior issues including the provision of support and communication with families. 
  • Keeps accurate and detailed student plans and records, documenting all student learning and behavioral plans.
  • Works with staff and teachers to create and strengthen systems that simplify and improve experiences for families and students. 
  • Monitors and guides teachers in executing academic programs and curriculum. Assists faculty and students in managing academic expectations.
  • Collaborates across divisions to ensure consistent implementation of process and policy related to student discipline, instructional support, academic programming and co-curricular activities.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:    

  • Bachelor's degree in a field of science, education or earth/geo- science.

Experience:

  • Teaching science at the middle school level.
  • Teaching earth/geo- science at the middle school level.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion issues and dynamics in the classroom and in developing healthy, supportive relationships with all students.
  • Strong knowledge of course subject matter.
  • Knowledge of instructional methodologies and progressive educational principles.
  • Strong knowledge of child development.
  • Develop curricula, lesson plans and assessment tools.

Working Conditions

  • Move in and around the classroom/building to interact with students, faculty, staff, parents, and other members of the community.
  • Move class-related equipment/tools, as appropriate, around school property.
  • Escort children from one classroom to another, in and out of the building, during arrival and dismissal where required, and in an emergency situation. This may include climbing stairs of up to 2 stories, where appropriate with younger children.
  • Physically demonstrate lessons, where appropriate.
  • Manage and oversee hands-on student experiments.
