Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Researcher II for the  Medicinal Chemistry Department. The Laboratory Researcher II conducts research under the supervision of Dr Jun Wang . The position conducts highly specialized research focused on the identification of new drug targets and the development of novel small molecules for use as chemical probes for target validation as well as drug candidates for translational research. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Assists in managing Dr Wang’s research laboratory. 
  • Supervises, teaches and assists students and postdocs to conduct experiments for the aforementioned research.  
  •  Studies the mechanism of action and resistance of antivirals, pharmacokinetic studies and animal models.
  • Keeps records of all experiments and collect data.
  • Conducts statistical analysis and write reports.
  • Participates in and present results and literature in group meetings and department seminars.
  • Writes manuscripts for publication and present results at conferences.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • PhD degree in biochemistry or related fields. 
  • A minimum of three years of postdoctoral research experience. 
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skill. 
  • Experience in molecular cloning, protein expression, imaging, structural biology, electrophysiology, assay development, proteomics, mouse models and BSL-2 viruses including influenza viruses, enteroviruses and common human coronaviruses. 
  • Knowledge of standard scientific techniques and the ability to oversee the recording and maintenance of data and possess effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to publish scientific research papers/articles. 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.  
  • Computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Adobe illustrator, Prism, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers 5+ years of postdoctoral research experience.
Equipment Utilized
  • Equipment will include and not be limited to: plate reader, two-electrode voltage clamp, SPR, and thermal shift assay.  
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Regular workweek may include evening and/or weekend work.
