Laboratory Research Technician will maintain laboratory reagents, equipment, and space and assist with ordering.  They will have an independent project with supervision as well as assist on other lab projects.

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry or a related field (e.g. Chemistry, Biology). Basic molecular biology/biochemistry knowledge is required, and the candidate should have experience working in a laboratory setting. The technician will be required to maintain mammalian and insect cell cultures and perform some protein expression and purification. They will also perform basic routine biochemical and molecular biology techniques, including immunoprecipitation and western blot assays. Good lab practice to keep cell lines healthy and available for other lab members to use as needed is mandatory. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a biochemistry or cell biology lab. Organizational skills and timely scheduling are necessary as well as the ability to identify and problem solve as needed. 

All applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Unrelated degree may be substituted for relative lab experience.



Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.


Essential Functions 

Maintain research area and reagents, and conduct some biochemical, molecular and cell biology experiments in the lab in a largely supervised fashion.


Physical Effort 

Moderate - Must stand and walk for extended periods of time to conduct experiments. Must walk every day from lab and common departmental areas. May need to lift moderate objects (e.g. centrifuge rotors) as necessary
