General Notes

Position located in Port Aransas, Texas. Must be eligible to work in the US on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.

Purpose

This position will work with the Esbaugh fish physiology and toxicology lab, which conducts research related to the effects of environmental factors on fish health and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Fish husbandry of southern flounder, red drum and sheepshead minnow. This will include maintaining juvenile stocks, brood stocks, and contributing to larval rearing.

  • Conduct respirometry experiments related to the effects of temperature and hypoxia on standard and maximum metabolic rate and critical oxygen threshold.

  • Contribute to toxicity testing of lithium in embryonic and larval red drum, sheepshead minnow and southern flounder.

  • Contribute to data management, compliance and progress reporting for on-going funded projects.


Required Qualifications

  • Diploma (High School) or GED: General

  • Previous experience with respirometry techniques in fishes.

  • Ability to work in a team setting with other researchers.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marine, biological, geological, or environmental science, or a closely related field.

  • Previous experience with husbandry of marine fishes.

  • Previous experience working in wet and dry laboratories.

  • Basic skills in R or other statistical programs.


Salary Range

$42,000 + depending on qualifications

  • Will work in up to 15-ft deep estuarine waters driving small research boats

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
