JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the PI, perform mass spectrometry-based proteomics experiments, using both discovery and targeted approaches.
  • Perform proteomics sample preparation according to established SOPs and maintain records of sample metadata.
  • Perform laboratory duties involving mass spectrometer operation and troubleshooting.
  • Assist with routine mass spectrometer maintenance and coordinate with service engineers on annual preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Analyze proteomics data using industry standard software (e.g., Proteome Discoverer, Skyline, Spectronaut)
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of activities in an electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Order and stock lab supplies.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the lab.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as requested.

EDUCATION:

Candidates with an MS degree in biology, biochemistry, physiology, or closely related field plus 3-5 years of experience in academic or industry research are preferred. Candidates with a BS degree and 5+ years of laboratory research experience will also be considered.


Required Qualifications at this Level:

Education/Training:

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field. 


Experience:

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two-year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR  


Skills

  • Preferred 3-5 years of laboratory research experience.  
  • Candidates with an MS degree are preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with mass spectrometry is required.
  • Basic computing skills and experience with Excel software required.
  • Prior experience with proteomics software is highly desired. 
  • Experience with data visualization software (e.g., Prism) and/or statistics (JMP) is desirable.
  • Ability to enforce and adhere to strict safety requirements.
  • Must have strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and adaptable to shifting priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and work effectively in an interactive team environment.
