Job Description
A Research Analyst position is available at the Duke University Department of Ophthalmology to provide engineering support for research and clinical trial study activities involving novel ophthalmic imaging technology. Job responsibilities include:
Operating and maintaining prototype Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging systems in the Eye Center operating rooms and in the medical center

• Image and clinical data acquisition, analysis, and data management
• Transitional wet lab management
• Working with biological tissue for data collection in the wet lab
• Video editing and presentation production
• Communicating study status to peers and manager
• Manuscript preparation
• Preparing and presenting research data during Eye Center and Biomedical Engineering collaborative meetings
• Preparing and presenting research data at national meetings
• Consenting patients for research participation
• Coordinating clinical imaging activities with OR staff

Job Requirements
This Research Analyst position requires a Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering or comparable field of study. Master’s and PhD level will also be considered.

• Experience with optical/laser system design, alignment and maintenance
• Experience in medical image processing desired
• Familiarity with electronics and signal processing
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Proficiency with the following computer programs desirable: C++, Matlab, Osirix, ImageJ, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop
• Lab Research with engineering experience will be considered

The candidate should have keen attention to detail and have an understanding/or be willing to learn and follow Good Clinical Practices, Duke guidelines and Federal rules and regulations relating to human subjects research. This position will be fully trained in the relevant computing and operational protocols for the research OCT systems.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.

Experience
Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
