Job Summary
The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources is seeking a Laboratory Manager for the Wildlife Ecology Research Facility (WERF). Responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating personnel activity, managing projects, assisting with and conducting specific research projects, coordinating and conducting animal collection and husbandry
- Training and overseeing departmental personnel, graduate students and undergraduate students in proper and safe methods, techniques and procedures for the use of research equipment
- Assisting teaching with hands-on wildlife courses, including FNR34800 Wildlife Investigational Techniques and FNR34100 Wildlife Habitat Management
- Ensuring proper data collection and management (i.e., data entry and quality control)
- Ensuring proper maintenance of laboratory equipment. Maintain inventory and order supplies
- Preparing and maintaining common use chemicals and biologicals
- Designing and implementing various methods/protocols pertaining to biological analyses
- Ensuring compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Laboratory Animal Program (LAP), and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) regulations
- Performing other organizational and administrative duties as assigned
What We're Looking For:
- Master's degree in wildlife, fisheries, ecology, biology, or related field
- 1 year experience in general laboratory management, experience with supervision of technical personnel
- Experience working with animals including field collections, trapping, and animal husbandry
- Experience conducting experiments and experience with BSL-2
- Knowledge of relevant safety procedures. Skills with MS Office and R
