Laboratory Manager - WERF

Job Summary

The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources is seeking a Laboratory Manager for the Wildlife Ecology Research Facility (WERF). Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Coordinating personnel activity, managing projects, assisting with and conducting specific research projects, coordinating and conducting animal collection and husbandry
  • Training and overseeing departmental personnel, graduate students and undergraduate students in proper and safe methods, techniques and procedures for the use of research equipment
  • Assisting teaching with hands-on wildlife courses, including FNR34800 Wildlife Investigational Techniques and FNR34100 Wildlife Habitat Management
  • Ensuring proper data collection and management (i.e., data entry and quality control)
  • Ensuring proper maintenance of laboratory equipment. Maintain inventory and order supplies
  • Preparing and maintaining common use chemicals and biologicals
  • Designing and implementing various methods/protocols pertaining to biological analyses
  • Ensuring compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Laboratory Animal Program (LAP), and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) regulations
  • Performing other organizational and administrative duties as assigned

What We're Looking For:
  • Master's degree in wildlife, fisheries, ecology, biology, or related field
  • 1 year experience in general laboratory management, experience with supervision of technical personnel
  • Experience working with animals including field collections, trapping, and animal husbandry 
  • Experience conducting experiments and experience with BSL-2
  • Knowledge of relevant safety procedures. Skills with MS Office and R
