The Opportunity:

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) in the College of Sciences (COS) seeks qualified applicants for a Lab Manager position. This position is a full-time laboratory manager for the Games and Interactive Media (GaIM) MakerSpace lab.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching students how to utilize industry-leading technologies from digital fabrication to XR technologies.

  • Provide guidance and insight on the development of student projects.

  • Acquire industry-leading technologies that promote critical making.

  • Updating relevant training records of each user.

  • Refining and creating standard operating procedures for equipment.

  • Managing security access to the MakerSpace and other GaIM facilities.

  • Provide materials for UCF and NSCM marketing campaigns or news feeds.

  • Host events involving Orlando’s community and schools in the context of critical making.

  • Support GaIM’s endeavors in SPARK STEM FEST (Otronicon) on an annual basis.

  • Updating M&S forms as needed.

  • Budget and purchase of M&S materials for their relevant semesters.

  • Keep inventory of materials used by students.

  • Purchase technology requested by faculty for classroom, research, or program use.

  • Keep inventory of purchased equipment/technology.

  • Maintain all equipment/technology.

  • Surplus the broken or legacy equipment/technology.

  • Purchase of needed technologies for specific faculty endeavors.

  • Support development for faculty projects to be used in or out of the classroom.

  • Set up environments for research studies within the UCF Downtown campus and beyond.

  • Updating scripts and databases in a Linux framework.

  • Work with UCF IT for networking and Microsoft Azure hybrid needs.

  • Write up grant proposals specific to MakerSpace.

  • Support GaIM’s funding endeavors by finding related grant opportunities.

  • Aid GaIM faculty in grant write-ups that involve MakerSpace and its technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Grant writing experience in a laboratory environment.
