Laboratory Coordinator II (TEMP)

The Opportunity:

The Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, College of Medicine seeks a Laboratory Coordinator (TEMP). This individual will be a research lab coordinator who will report to Dr. Amber Southwell’s Lab at the UCF Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences at the Lake Nona campus. The Southwell lab focuses on preclinical therapy development for Huntington disease. We are seeking an outstanding laboratory technician to work on NIH-funded research program.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee lab supplies and routine maintain equipment. 
  • Lead projects in the laboratory focused on bacterial cloning, recombinant protein production, and recombination.
  • Other studies that may include working with live animals, collecting and analyzing animal Maintain detailed written and electronic records of experiments and data.
  • Maintenance and collection of cultured cells and isolation of proteins and nucleic acids followed by quantitative assays.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree or masters degree and 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6) .   

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in molecular biology or a related field and 2 years of laboratory experience using molecular biology and microbiology techniques OR Master’s degree with thesis in a related field.
  • Working knowledge of human and bacterial genetics.
  • Previous experience with bacterial cloning, protein production, or recombination.
  • DNA sequence analysis experience.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret results of performed experiments.
  • Outstanding organizational and troubleshooting skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal protocols, techniques, and instructions.
  • Good team player, independent, self-driven with good interpersonal skills. 
  • Experience with the operation of a personal computer and software applications, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Power point).
  • Knowledge of sterile/aseptic techniques.
