Department Information
 

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides oversight of animal laboratory operations
2. Maintains lab inventories ensuring adequate stock of laboratory chemicals to support ongoing experimentation
3. Facilitates the mentorship of undergraduate students by assisting graduate students or research associates in research activities
4. Manages the care of laboratory rodents within the vivarium, encompassing tasks such as weighing, tattooing, and administering treatments, including drug dosages and surgical interventions
5. Aid in the preparation of experimental solutions tailored to the specific requirements of the project
6. Disseminate knowledge through reports, articles, white papers, other publications and through presentations at local, state and national levels


DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES*:
- Proficient computer and database management skills
- Ability to effectively and promptly communicate with research associates, graduate students, and Principal Investigator throughout research process
- Knowledge and experience utilizing western blot methodology


ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)
- One (1) year of experience in a biology laboratory or neuroscience setting
- Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g. GraphPad Prism, SPSS or Statam etc.
- Experience with data collection processes
- Experience in neuropharmacology


Job Summary
 

Performs research activities and other tasks as necessary in a laboratory environment. Records observations and measurements and reports results. Provides technical support for research activities. May provide oversight to undergraduate students engaged in research.


Responsibilities
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: - 
1. Engages in research activities such as design and perform experiments and record and analyze data
2. Assists in the preparation of reports, presentations, and manuscripts
3. May oversee undergraduate research projects
4. Assists with laboratory maintenance, cleaning and disinfecting equipment, and ordering and stocking of equipment

 


Required Qualifications
 

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in science, biology or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education in the area of study
Required Experience
Some experience conducting research (at least one year) in a biology laboratory or neuroscience setting


Preferred Qualifications
 

Preferred Experience
Experience in writing and preparing scientific manuscripts

Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (e.g., Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism, Adobe and/or Corel Graphics, other field related programs)

Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
