Department Information
 

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conducts basic and/or complex procedures with the use of basic methods in microbiology, biochemistry, cellular biology and molecular biology: Bacterial culture, bacterial gene manipulation (cloning, etc.), tissue culture, regular polymerase chain reaction (PCR), real-time PCR (RT-qPCR), Western blotting, SDS-PAGE, protein purification, biochemical protein analyses, metal/metalloid quantification and speciation (ICP-MS, HPLC-ICP-MS), antimicrobial/cytotoxicity assay, column chromatography, etc.
2. Assist in regulatory Institutional Review Board (IRB)/safety compliance of the laboratory and its members related to institutional guidelines.

Job Summary
 

Performs research activities and other tasks as necessary in a laboratory environment. Records observations and measurements and reports results. Provides technical support for research activities. May provide oversight to undergraduate students engaged in research.

 

This position is grant funded.  Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funding.


Responsibilities
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: - 
1. Engages in research activities such as design and perform experiments and record and analyze data
2. Assists in the preparation of reports, presentations, and manuscripts
3. May oversee undergraduate research projects
4. Assists with laboratory maintenance, cleaning and disinfecting equipment, and ordering and stocking of equipment


Required Qualifications
 

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the area of study
Required Experience
Some experience conducting research


Preferred Qualifications
 

Preferred Experience
1. Previous experience in conducting microbiology, cellular biology, and/or biochemistry research
2. Experience in writing and preparing scientific manuscripts
 


Proposed Salary
 

The salary rage for this position is between $17.50/hr-$20/hr. Offers will be based on candidate experience and budget availability.
