Lab Technician I

Position Description:

Purpose

Under direct supervision, provide basic support to laboratory functions including maintenance, operation and inventory of equipment and supplies. Support research investigators as needed.

Primary Functions

  •   Assist with maintaining a clean laboratory environment.

  •   Operate and maintain a variety of basic lab equipment such as autoclaving.

  •   Assist in organizing and setup lab supplies and equipment for individual research investigators.

  •   Assist with inventory and record of supplies.

  •   Assist with basic data analysis functions.

  •   Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed.

  •   Assist and participate in small animal surgeries, assessments, and care.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.

Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education:               High School Diploma

Minimum Required Experience:              No experience required

Preferred Education: Some college level classes in biology, neuroscience, or other related field.

Preferred Experience:  Willingness to work with animals.
