Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Location:  New Orleans, LA
Summary

A laboratory technician position is available to perform general operational assistance in the laboratory. This person will assist in day-to-day lab operations while conducting straightforward experiments.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally

  • Ability to use a PC or Mac computer and Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). To create instruction material, reports and equipment brochures

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Familiarity with the operations of basic laboratory equipment; ability to troubleshoot minor malfunctions of scientific equipment holdings

  • Excellent record keeping and file maintenance skills

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Ability to work with mice on a daily to weekly basis

  • Proficient in working with databases

  • Ability to work on projects under the supervision of the PI

  • Ability to use HPLC and conventional approaches, such as ion exchange and affinity chromatography, for protein purification of recombinant protein or protein complexes as well as native protein complexes

Required Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma

  • One (1) year directly related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in x-ray crystallography

  • Research experience in ligation independent molecular cloning, bacterial cell culture for protein over expression, cell lysis with French press and sonication, protein purification using Fast Performance Liquid chromatography, HPLC, protein crystallization using hanging and sitting drop vapor diffusion methods, diffraction data collection using synchrotron radiation and structure determination using CCP4 crystallographic suite and COOT

  • Experience in enzymology analysis, cell cultures, protein-protein interaction assays using biophysical and biochemical tools,such as Biacor, SPR, ITC and GST-pull down analyses

This position is a non-exempt, hourly position assigned to pay grade 21.
