Posting Summary | Provide operational oversight and perform complex laboratory and technical functions including experiments involving PCR, immunofluorescence, and confocal microscopy, in support of a Pharmacology research laboratory examining the presence of ion channels within the endothelium of mouse intracerebral arterioles, as well as cerebral vascular and bladder smooth muscle function. Oversee breeding, genotyping, ordering, and import/export of various multi-strain transgenic and conventional animal models. Maintain, manage, and adapt animal colonies for ongoing funded research projects, train and assist researchers on using animal colonies to ensure lab personnel can safely and effectively carry out all research tasks, coordinate and supervise other lab technicians on animal colony duties. Function as laboratory safety officer, keeping all staff, students, and faculty updated in training, compliance, and integration with laboratory protocols. Provide functional supervision of laboratory personnel and students. Ensure all aspects of the laboratory function in an efficient, safe, and productive manner. |
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience) | Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, neuroscience, animal sciences, or related science and four to six years’ related laboratory experience using PCR and other molecular biology techniques and mammalian cell culture required. Experience maintaining animal colonies and performing animal model genetic testing, immunohistochemistry required. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, collaborate with others, and work with limited supervision required. Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency with technology to include word processing, spreadsheets, and web-based functions, and ability to adapt to changing situations of multiple, concurrent projects and to adjust priorities accordingly required. Ability to work independently, in a timely fashion, and with precision and accuracy required. |
