Position Title | LAB RESEARCH TECHNICIAN I/II CMED |
Position Summary | The technician will perform experiments designed by the PI, provides general laboratory assistance and management to the Principal Investigator. This position conducts research on developing genetic tools for manipulating neuronal activity. Acts independently with minimal oversight to perform laboratory experiments and provides detailed data analysis of the results to PI. |
Required Qualifications | Lab Research Technician I (ST-4): High school diploma or GED. Knowledgeable in basic laboratory research methods, techniques and experiments. Basic Computer Skills Ability to read and translate scientific literature. Animal handling skills and genotyping. Experience with or ability to learn following: cloning, PCR, cell/tissue culture. Lab Research Technician II (ST-5): Demonstration of meeting and/or exceeding the required qualifications for Lab Research Technician I and; Ability to work independently without direct supervision. Demonstrated ability to train and lead others within laboratory setting. |
Preferred Qualifications | Lab Research Technician I (ST-4): One year related experience. Experience in higher education laboratory setting including undergraduate student. Lab Research Technician II (ST-5): Two years experience in higher education laboratory setting including graduate assistantship and internship experience. |
Duties & Responsibilities | Lab Research Technician I (ST4): Conducts experiments and analysis as requested by the PI. Adheres to the rules and regulations regarding the handling of Animals within the Lab. Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies. Utilizes a variety of specific techniques (cloning, PCR, cell/tissue culture, multi electrode recording). Conducts experiments within a variety of research projects, involving approaches from molecular biology, viral vectors, optogenetics, and electrophysiology. Lab Research Technician II (ST-5): Performs the duties and responsibilities of the Lab Research Technician I (ST-4) and; Plans and conducts lab work as a high level technician with little direct oversight or supervision, summarizes and presents data from experiments to faculty/PI. Ensures proper protocols are followed by all personnel in lab. Demonstrates fluency in laboratory techniques within the lab. Calibrates equipment when necessary ensuring proper operation. Assists with the training of junior lab staff in techniques that are new to them and may assist with independent research projects. Evaluates the methods, procedures and techniques that are used in accordance to best practices and in compliance with federal, state, university and granting agency. |
