Summary

The Emotion and Self-Control Lab is seeking to hire a full-time Research Technician Associate. The lab explores how people can control their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to improve understanding of how self-control works, and to discover ways of enhancing self-control in daily life. The lab adopts an integrative approach to address these issues that draws on multiple disciplines within psychology including social, personality, clinical, developmental, and neuroscience. The lab integrates across these areas in terms of the types of questions asked, the methods used to address them, and the populations that are focused on.


Primary responsibilities for the Research Technician will include: Recruitment of human subjects; Assisting with the design and implementation of multiple types of studies (e.g., laboratory, field, fMRI, physiological); Cleaning and analysis of data; Managing day to day lab business (website maintenance, calendar upkeep, IRB applications, etc.).

Responsibilities*
  • Work on development and implementation studies. This includes: detailed literature reviews on past and current work, complete application for IRB (HSBS and/or Med), create study materials (questionnaires, tasks, etc.)
  • Create experimenter scripts and guidelines for study protocols, and train undergraduate RAs to run experiments. In addition, run more detailed and intricate studies.
  • Handle and complete administrative duties such as: scheduling appointments and lab meetings, handling the reimbursements and budget for various grants, maintain and update the lab website, handle data storage, and keep the lab organized (rooms, equipment, etc.)
  • Work with study data. This includes: compiling and preparing raw data for analyses, and running basic analyses
  • Collaborate with and help graduate students in the lab: assist with study implementation and IRB applications, train RAs, and provide materials equipment guidelines to all graduate students in an organized and fair manner.

Required Qualifications*
  • High school diploma or Associates degree
  • 1 year of experience
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willingness to travel periodically to research sites across the country
  • Passion for pursuing a research career in this area

Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience conducting independent research
  • Familiarity with Excel, SPSS, and Qualtrics
  • Experience handling fMRI and/or autonomic data
  • Experience managing teams of people
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail

Additional Information

The salary range is $31,200 - $33,900. Please note a higher salary may be offered based on equity and the selected candidate's experience. Please note a higher salary may be offered based on equity and the selected candidate's experience.

This is a 12-month term-limited position with the possibility of renewal. The anticipated start date is June 3rd, 2024.
