Lab Manager - Department of Psychology - Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences

Established by the Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences in 1967, the Department of Psychology is an intellectually diverse community of scholars engaged in research addressing both basic psychological processes and social issues.

Our The Laboratory on Social & Affective Neuroscience – located within the conducts research aimed at understanding the social, cognitive, and neural basis of social processes that include empathy, altruism, and aggression. We tackle these questions using multiple approaches that include functional and structural brain imaging in adults from both typical and special populations, as well as behavioral methods. Current research projects include behavioral and brain imaging investigations of altruism, generosity, empathy, social learning, and antisocial behavior.

Job Overview

The Lab Manager is involved in a range of functions essential to carrying out empirical research and operating the lab, with responsibilities that include but are not limited to:

  • Applies for and manages approval for research by oversight bodies and coordinates protocol development, recruitment, and fMRI/behavioral data collection
  • Leads and directs the work of others by directly hiring and managing undergraduate research assistants
  • Coordinates administrative tasks and scheduling for the lab
  • If assigned, assists the Principal Investigator in designing study protocols and the preparation of manuscripts, depending on their preparation and training

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting directly to the PI, the Lab Manager supervises undergraduate research assistants. 

Additionally, they interact with human subject participants, research staff, and the PI, post-doctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate research assistants in the laboratory in-person, via email, and via phone.

This position has been designated as On-Campus.  Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 1 year of experience working in psychology or neuroscience research laboratory
  • Quantitative abilities sufficient to complete preliminary data analysis
  • Human interaction skills for interacting with human research subjects and organizational skills
  • Experience managing junior trainees or staff
