Lab manager and facility support

The Princeton Institute of Materials seeks applications from qualified candidates for a laboratory manager and facility support technician at the rank of Associate Professional Specialist to oversee research laboratories within the institute.  The successful candidate will report to Professor Craig Arnold.  

The Lab manager will fill various roles within PRISM and with the Arnold Group to help support students' educational and research development.  These roles include but are not limited to, maintaining supplies and equipment, training students, overseeing budget and purchasing, acting as the lab safety officer, coordinating educational and outreach activities, and maintaining and supporting computational resources including data management and website.   Furthermore, the lab manager will serve as the key interface between the group, the institute, and relevant departments such as Chemistry 

The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in all aspects of institute educational and research efforts, including teaching classes, writing research/educational proposals, mentoring students, supporting/advising student groups, and other related activities.  In particular, as part of this appointment, the successful candidate will teach in the Chemistry Department. Course commitment(s) will be assigned annually by the Associate Chair according to the needs of the department.

Essential Qualifications: 
*PhD in Materials Science, Engineering, Natural Science, or related field and 3+ years related working experience is required.
*Experience in research management and mentoring of students/researchers
*Substantial hands-on experience in laboratory techniques and methods including chemical synthesis, materials characterization, and materials processing.  
*Experience in the daily maintenance and operation of instruments and laboratory safety.
*Excellent communication skills are required to work and interface with all users of the facility.
