Position Summary:

The Francis Lab in the Department of Biolog y at Florida Atlantic University is exploring research of how flowers act as a nexus for plants' interactions with animals, microbes and co-flowering species. The Lab Coordinator will be be working in a cutting-edge research environment, and will have the opportunity to engage and contribute to important research in pollination ecology.

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Lab Coordinator - Davie, FL.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of standard laboratory tests and analyses involving plants, pollinators, and microbes. 

  • Performs field work by gathering data and collecting samples potentially requiring occasional overnight travel to field sites.

  • Analyzes data and collaborates to produce reports for publication.

  • Operates and maintains a variety of laboratory equipment. 

  • Assists with logistical requirements of research in the lab including 1) purchasing small equipment and ensuring the availability of consumable materials; 2) assisting with the care and husbandry of captive insect colonies or greenhouse plants.

  • Acts as information point person to alert PIs and students to necessary EH&S forms and trainings to complete, inspections, known hazards to avoid. 

  • Assists with ensuring that lab SOPs and lab personnel meet EH&S requirements.

  • Works on-site, with limited options for working remotely.

  • Reports to PI of lab.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required. Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one before employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Biology or Environmental Studies.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field with substantial course work in ecology and evolutionary biology.
Preferred Experience:
Six months of experience collecting biological data lab and field involving plants, insects, or microbes. Experience may be through undergraduate research experience resulting in data for adequate quality publication.
Experience analyzing and presenting biological data or appropriate education demonstrating the potential to analyze and present biological data.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students.

Salary:

$36,000 - $38,480 per year.
