Job Summary

The Department of Evolution and Ecology is a teaching and research unit in the College of Biological Sciences. This position provides Drosophila medium for 20 faculty labs, manages, and maintains the facility, and provides departmental purchasing/accounts payable/facility support.



Job Summary

Under direction of the Drosophila Medium Facility Director and (lead) CAO, manage the Drosophila Medium Facility. Maintain facility, prepare, and dispense medium, assure quality control, supervise student assistants, deliver orders, track usage and prepare billing. Position also provides facility and departmental purchasing, receiving, and accounts payable support.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lifting Requirements: Lift and move supplies (boxes, bottles and bags) weighing up to 50 lbs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

·       Experience using automated pipette machines and in using electric cooking equipment.

·       Organizational skills to prioritize and schedule based on media order volume/needs and experience to prepare large amounts of media and modify recipes and to troubleshoot food contamination issues for quick resolution.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

·       Knowledge of standard safety procedures for safe chemical handling, inventory, and usage.

·       Math skills to measure recipe ingredients and in support of accounting functions.

·       Skills to select, train and supervise student employees.

·       Communication skills to interact effectively in person, by phone and email.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:   

·       Experience using Excel and Googledocs to create spreadsheets for tracking orders, usage, and recharge calculations.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

·       Knowledge to maintain a clean environment to reduce pest infestations.

·       Knowledge to project use of and maintain supply inventory, based on usage needs.
