Description
Come do exciting, important science with fantastic people in a great location. We are looking for someone to help manage lab and field research activities for the Global Change and Watershed Biogeochemistry Lab at WSU in Vancouver WA (https://labs.wsu.edu/gcwblab/). Duties for this position will vary but will include fieldwork on Pacific Northwest rivers and reservoirs, operating, maintaining, and scheduling analytical instruments, and working with environmental data and samples. The initial focus of the project will be on fieldwork and labwork associated with a National Science Foundation-funded research project focused on understanding reciprocal interactions between reservoir operations and reservoir biogeochemical and ecosystem function (https://labs.wsu.edu/dises/). Official duties will also include: active participation in all experiments (design, sample collection, sample preparation, and sample analysis), preparation of data for presentation and publication (statistical analysis, graphing, writing), maintaining daily lab operations (ordering supplies, scheduling experiments, monitoring controlled substances, enforcing safety procedures), providing training to all laboratory personnel (high school students, undergraduates, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and visiting scholars), and leading the work of student researchers and other research assistants.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications A Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate related field of science or technology AND two years’ experience in a field applicable to the assignment, at least one year must include lead or supervisory experience. A Master’s Degree may be substituted for one year of required experience; OR equivalent education/experience. Preferred Qualifications Two (2) years experience working in an ecology or bio-geochemistry laboratory or equivalent education/experience. Five (5) years experience as a research assistant working in a bio-geochemistry laboratory. Two (2) years experience as a lab manager including ordering supplies and supervising others. Authorship on at least two (2) peer-reviewed journal articles. Proficiency using Excel, ArcMap, Sigmaplot, and Adobe Illustrator.
