The lab of Dr. Richard Flavell at Yale University is seeking a Lab Administrative Research Technician to join the team in support of both day-to-day lab operations and research. The Flavell Lab is interested in the molecular and cellular basis of the immune response. Their research leverages transgenic and gene-targeted mice to study the innate and adaptive arms of the immune system, and how these reciprocally regulate a broad range of biological processes. More information about the lab can be found on their website: https://medicine.yale.edu/lab/flavell/

About the Lab Administration Research Technician role:
You will hold a key role within the team - supporting the day-to-day operational and scientific functions that keep the lab running smoothly. What you’ll do:

  • Manage Dr. Flavell’s calendar and schedule appointments.

  • Triage Dr. Flavell’s e-mail inbox and route messages as appropriate.

  • Maintain lab’s inventory, including ordering, receiving, and stocking supplies.

  • Serve as the liaison between the lab, HHMI, and Yale administrative offices on issues such as procurement, MTAs, lab staff transitions, visas, budgets, use of host accounts, and other operational activities.

  • Serve as liaison between the lab and Federal, state, and local safety authorities ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.

  • Actively participate in lab meetings and planning sessions.

  • Manage service contracts and repair of laboratory equipment.

  • Organize lab events and coordinate arrangements for visitors.

  • Process and track reimbursements from multiple sources for Dr. Flavell and lab team members.

  • Coordinate onboarding processes and training for incoming lab members.

  • Assist team members with research work by performing various scientific techniques/procedures as well as operating instruments and other equipment.

What you bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a scientific field is required.

  • Previous experience working in a research laboratory environment is required. Previous experience working in an administrative and/or operational role would be a plus.

  • Foundational understanding of chemistry and biology is required.

  • Knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, would be a plus.

  • Strong sense of self-motivation, integrity, trustworthiness, and ability to work in a diverse environment with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

  • Passion for efficiency, operational excellence, and process improvement.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and high attention to detail.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.

  • Strong knowledge of computers and MS Office software.

Physical Requirements

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet). Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids and presence of carcinogenic substances.

Compensation Range

$19.84 (minimum) - $24.81 (midpoint) - $32.26 (maximum)

Pay Type:

Hourly

HHMI’s salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
