Job Description Summary:
The University of Kansas School of Nursing is seeking a full-time Assistant Dean for Student Support. This person will assure the KU SON and the KU Office of Student Support achieve its mission and objectives and see that any revenue or expense targets are achieved. This person will assure that the goals and objectives of student support are achieved, direct the office’s employees to assure that they are fully functional and have the necessary tools to perform their assignments, assure compliance with all KUMC policies and relevant governmental, legal, and funder regulations, and establish strategic and operational plans on an annual and long-term basis. This person will be responsible to maintain thorough knowledge of KUMC and technical information of the office’s field of endeavor, and to promote productive and collaborative relationships with KUSON leadership, faculty, and staff, and KUMC leaders to successfully perform the functions of the Office. She/He will assure that business interruption plans for the office are robust and that applications for external funding are appropriately pursued. This person will be responsible for assuring that student recruitment, admission and enrollment, and counseling are optimized. The incumbent will support a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, respect, collegiality, and kindness within the Office and in concert with School leadership, faculty, students, and staff.

  • Assure annual and long-term operating plans and budgets are thorough and timely for the Office
  • Assure implementation of approved operating and budget plans are maintained within the office.
  • Develop organizational staffing plans and assure that employees with appropriate experience and skills are hired, onboarded, trained, supervised, have individual goals and development plans; receive annual performance evaluations and where necessary, implement appropriate employee discipline, as needed.
  • Assure policies, procedures, and employee actions of the units are performed in accordance with KUMC policies, and applicable local, state, federal laws and regulations
  • Assure all work performed by Office employees is done in a safe and secure manner
  • Assure coordination of office work with other units of the School and areas of KUMC to assure integration and support of KUMC and School goals and objectives
  • Maintain personal level of student services expertise to ensure that Office activities are carried out with best practices.
  • Ensure that all activities of the Office are carried out in accordance with KUMC and FERPA policies.
  • Assure that Office employees receive School and KUMC information necessary to perform their responsibilities by communicating openly and soliciting employee feedback.
  • Participate in and lead appropriate committees, task force and other similar activities assuring optimal resource utilization
  • Seek external funding as appropriate for the office.
  • Assure that necessary electronic data collection, storage and retrieval systems are implemented and used by personnel in an appropriate fashion.
  • Assure that appropriate training on Office activities and systems occur in a timely and efficient fashion
  • Collaborate with the Business and Finance office to utilized marketing and market analysis to assist with programmatic and recruitment planning
  • Ability to interact effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Develops and lead strategic recruitment plans
  • Oversees development of reports for Student Support office, e. g. AACN Enrollment Reports, Kansas State Board of Nursing reports
  • Oversees administration of student surveys and pre- and post-graduation tracking
  • Reviews and revises admission requirements and processes in collaboration with faculty and national trends

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Student Affairs, Human Resources, or related field
  • Experience in higher education student affairs.
  • Evidence of supporting a culture of psychological safety.
  • Experience and/or education in organizational behavior and leadership.
